We talk about the latest trailer for Matt Reeves: The Batman, which recently dropped at the annual DC Fandome.

Set to the melody of a cover version of ‘Something in the way’ by Nirvana, the new trailer gave us more footage of the movies characters including our new Batman (Robert Pattinson), Catwoman ( Zoe Kravitz – yes, Lenny’s daughter!) and the movies antagonists The Riddler (Paul Dano) and The Penguin (Colin Farrell).
It shows the latest version of the BatMobile, alongside fight scenes, car chases, character interactions, explosions and monologues from Andy Serkis (Alfred), Kravitz plus distinctively chilling riddles from main villain The Riddler, who seems to have an eerie ‘SaW- Jigsaw’ like presence about him in this movie, which is in line with the more horror like vibe, that makes this trailer distinctively different to previous films.

According to reports, Reeves took inspiration for his new film from the following comics: Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale’s Batman: The Long Halloween, Darwyn Cooke’s Batman Ego and Other Tails, and Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli’s influential origin story Batman: Year One, and this seems evident in the new trailer with its overall ‘darker than usual for a Batman movie’ tone.

I for one, was initially sceptical of Pattinson donning the black cape but since seeing his portrayal in the latest trailer, alongside the hearing of exclusive interviews from Director Reeves and Robert Pattinson himself at the DC Fandome online event, I am now more convinced on what they are actually planning on doing for this movie – is actually quite fresh!
In what will be the eighth version of a Hollywood Batman movie (not counting the Adam West classic), we are apparently set to see a younger version of the caped crusader, who is still trying to transition into his double life as a millionaire and the dark knight – while being overwhelmingly possessed by his personal mission to avenge his parents death by aggressively dishing out punishment to the criminals within the underworld of Gotham City.

The movie is due for release March 4th 2022.
I can’t wait to see how this progresses prior the release.
