So it finally happened!

The news Newcastle United fans had longed for as the Premier League granted the £300M sale of NUFC to the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF) who will control an 80% stake in the club ,with the consortium led by Amanda Staveley.

The news has since sent shock waves through the footballing world as the new owners are apparently worth an estimated £700 billion pound, making Newcastle United richer than the top 10 football clubs in the world combined! It is official: Newcastle United are the richest football club in the world!

With this in mind, we take a (realistic) look at some potential players the Toon may now target with their new found wealth.

Wilfred Zaha

The Crystal Palace hot shot has been linked with a move away from his boyhood club for some time. Next summer may be the last chance for a ‘big move’ and Newcastle may look to the Ivory Coast international to bring exciting gusto & raw flair in a new look forward line.

Jesse Lingard

Was unlucky to miss out on a Euro 2020 place for England last summer after an impressive loan spell at West Ham last season, where he scored 9 goals in 16 EPL games.

With game time still proving hard to come by at Manchester United, Lingard would no doubt be open to a move in January to aid further his chances of gaining a place in the England squad, especially with the World Cup in Qatar in 2022 looming.

Gareth Bale

The Real Madrid star is in his final year of his contract and even though injuries have limited Bales appearances over the last few years, he would still be an instant marquee ‘big signing’ to make a statement of intent by the new owners.

There is no doubt the Welsh international would certainly add star quality to the side and would surely be an immediate fan favourite. Some considered his loan spell at Spurs last year a bit underwhelming yet he still managed 11 league goals!

Aaron Ramsey

Another fellow Welshman with proven Premier League experience from his eleven year tenure at Arsenal and who would bring further quality to any potential rebuild.

It is no secret that Juventus are looking to sell the midfielder who has failed to nail down a regular starting role in Turin since moving in 2019/20, scoring 4 goals in 49 appearances.

Wilfred Ndidi

A solid defensive midfielder who played a major role in Leicester City’s FA Cup success last season. Strong in the tackle and effective on the ball, Ndidi would be a shrewd signing for me.

Leicester would not want to lose such an integral player yet a big money bid of £50M-£70M would surely be enough to entice their hand, allowing the Geordies to land the Nigerian international to Tyneside.

Alexandre Lacazette

Another player who is in his last year of his contract and with no sign of him extending his current deal at Arsenal a move could be likely.

Would bring extra fire power alongside Callum Wilson & with his contract running down, a bargain could be had in January. Fans however, may cry out for a more super star name like Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan.

Dwight McNeil

Still only 21 years old, Englishman McNeil has already played over a century of games for Burnley, having joined from Manchester United’s youth academy in 2014.

The tricky left winger would certainly add an additional attacking threat to a team that over relies on Allan Saint – Maximin & is yet to see any real return in Joelinton & Miguel Almiron.

James Tarkowski

Another Burnley player already linked to the Geordies by newspaper outlets; including Spanish paper Marca, is captain James Tarkowski. The 29 year old is another player in the final year of his contract and would form a strong centre back pairing with club captain James Lacelles. Could also be purchased for a bargain price in January.

Isco

Upping the anti now somewhat, with more glamorous names from overseas, Newcastle United may raid Spanish giants Real Madrid for attacking midfielder Isco, 29.

Another player deemed surplus to requirements at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, the Spanish international would be a good addition and may again prove to be a relatively reasonable & viable acquisition for around £20M-£30M or so.

Phillipe Coutinho

Finally, could the exciting Brazilian land upon Tyneside?

The former Liverpool midfielder’s move to Barcelona has been overwhelmingly unsuccessful ever since he was signed for €160M. He was loaned out to Bayern Munich after just one season where he scored 8 goals in 23 matches. During his time at Camp Nou he has scored 15 goals in 68 appearances. With Barcelona’s current financial predicament, which resulted in losing Leo Messi last summer, they would surely be keen to offload Coutinho from their wage bill.

Newcastle may just look to the Brazilian to spearhead the new owners charge in the Premier League, where he previously scored a more impressive 41 goals in 152 appearances between 2013-2018.

Rumours and names will be mooted aplenty between now and the next transfer window in January.

First and foremost, potential signings aside, the future of the unpopular Steve Bruce as manager, will be the owners first opportunity to appease the fans.

One things for certain, after a long 14 years under Mike Ashley, the future finally looks bright for the Toon Army faithful!

Who do you think Newcastle will sign in the next transfer window?

Who would you like to see join the Toon army?

Are you a Newcastle fan? What’s it feel like to be officially the richest club in the world?

And to all other EPL fans out there – do you fear Newcastle can be a force in the league for the foreseeable future and do we have another Man City ‘esq evolution about to embrace the league?

Football fan Dads- let’s get talking!
